The MentorDocs program has two distinct but overlapping and interlocking components. The first component involves a multi-tiered mentor network, which not only has traditional career mentoring focused on academic achievement, but also uses near-peer mentors to give support based on shared experiences, and who provide culturally-relevant models of personal and career success. The second component is a series of career-skills building programs, both in person and online, that will be hosted at UCSF. Trainings will focus on traditional skills, such as scientific writing and grantsmanship, as well as on tutorials aimed at building leadership and management skills and addressing work-life balance issues.
